I’ve had multiple requests to hold an online study group surrounding material in my book, The Everyday Naturalist: How to Identify Animals, Plants, and Fungi Wherever You Go. Each session we’ll go in-depth into the material you’ve read since the last session, discuss observations and answer questions, and talk about how to incorporate the material into our everyday experiences in nature.
You can register for individual sessions at the links below:
February 2, 2026 – Introduction and Chapter 1: Why Do We Need Everyday Naturalists? (yes, the EventBrite says February 1–it was a typo on my part)
Here are details about the sessions:
–There will be monthly online sessions, 60-90 minutes depending on how many people are in each meeting and how much material we have to cover, each one covering a chapter of the book (or two shorter chapters), so somewhere around 8-10 sessions. For example, if I start in February 2026, and there are 10 sessions that go through November, I’ll take the following December and January off before starting the next cycle in February 2027. You can start any time, not just February, but you’ll likely need to read the entire book up to and including the chapter discussed in your first session so you have context for discussion.
–You will need to read the material for each session beforehand. Think of this like a book club with more intensive discussion, guidance, and activity.
–There is a sliding scale fee for each session, with a minimum of $10. This will be regardless of whether you are able to attend that month’s session live, or only receive the recording for that month.
–Online sessions will be held via Zoom and will be recorded; the recording link (good for a limited time afterward) will be shared ONLY with study group members who have paid for that month’s session. This would also allow study group members to be able to get caught up if they miss a live session due to illness, time conflicts, etc.
